About PIFRAS

The Policy Institute for Religion and State (PIFRAS) is a non-profit, non-religious and non-political institution that uses policy research, education, communication and field based relief programs to achieve its mission. PIFRAS is tax exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. PIFRAS raises funds for its work through donations and grants.
 


PIFRAS Mission, Objectives and Activities

Mission:


 “ To encourage a democratic basis for the interaction between religion and state by promoting an  understanding of the role of democracy, human rights and religious freedom in creating sustainable societies "

Functions:
  1. To promote research, education and awareness building on issues relevant to human rights and religious freedom particularly in emerging democracies.
  2. To pursue integrated approaches to the promotion of human rights and religious freedom through legislative reform, institution building/strengthening and implementation of practical strategies based on internationally accepted norms and standards.
  3. To maintain a record of violations of religious rights particularly of ethnic and religious minorities and to offer this information base for the study of relevant problems and their solutions.
  4. To study and evaluate issues related to human rights and religious freedoms flowing from current trends in globalization of economic forces.
  5. To contribute to practical relief efforts aimed at addressing emergencies created by political conflicts that violate human rights and religious freedoms.
  6. To raise funds for fulfilling the Objectives of PIFRAS by soliciting donations and grants and by implementing special campaigns.
  7. The above Objectives are implemented through the following Activities.
     


Activities:

  1. Organizing seminars, conferences and public discussion groups.
  2. Bringing out publications and reports
  3. Arranging briefings for US Congressional leaders and other key policy makers. 
  4. Hosting visits to Washington DC of eminent world leaders, social activists and academic experts.
  5. Networking with the media and issuing periodic media briefs
  6. Implementing field projects that put into practice PIFRAS Mission and Objectives
  7. Engaging directly in relief programs
