India’s National Elections and US Foreign Policy Interests

India is holding its national general elections in March / April 2004. An estimated half a billion people will exercise their voting rights to
choose a new government. The Hindu Nationalist Party - Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Indian National Congress Party are forming their own coalitions on ideological grounds to face the elections. A panel of experts from the US, UK and India will explore the implications for various political, social and religious policies in India's immediate future and the relevance to the US foreign policy interests.
